A Birth Card is a convenient credit card-sized
extract of your birth information and is available to anyone
whose birth is registered in New South Wales.
A Birth Card contains:
- Your full name at birth
- Your date and place of birth
- Your photograph
- Your signature
The Birth Card does not contain a woman's married name as
it is an extract of birth information from the registration.
A Birth Card is the perfect alternative if you do not have
photo identification such as a driver's licence or passport.
You may need a Birth Card if you:
- Do not hold a driver's licence;
- Need to prove your age for sporting or other community
competitions;
- Need to collect electronically-booked air tickets.
The card is valid for five years after which time it can
be renewed.
You can apply for a Birth Card in person at
one of the Registry's
offices in Newcastle, Sydney or Wollongong. Please note that the Birth Card is not available from our Parramatta Office.
Your photograph will be taken during your visit
and your Birth Card will be posted to you.
