Registering a Will on the Wills Register in entirely voluntary.
However, it will make it easier for your family to locate
your Will and any related instructions when needed. If your
Will is stored with a solicitor or professional trustee, they
may register your Will for you.
The Registry must record the Wills Register in perpetuity.
This means that the NSW Registry of Births Deaths & Marriages
is obliged by legislation to maintain its Registers forever.
The registration process is simple with the following details
stored by the Registry:
- Testator (person who's Will it is) details including full
name, date of birth, place of birth, address, telephone
number and parent's names
- Details of person registering the Will including full
name, address and relationship to testator
- Details of Will including date of Will, current location,
Executor of Will
