Registry Office marriages are held Monday to Friday in Sydney, Parramatta, Newcastle and Wollongong. Additionally in Sydney and Parramatta, marriages are held on Friday evening, all day Saturday and most Sundays. Although, Sunday weddings at Parramatta are by special arrangement only.

Lodging the NOIM

Both bride and groom should visit the Registry in person to complete a Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) form. This must be lodged with the Registry at least one month and one day prior to the marriage ceremony and is valid for up to 18 months. You do not need to make an appointment to lodge the NOIM.

In some cases the NOIM may be lodged with the Registry but the marriage date will be set at a later date.

If you cannot attend an interview to lodge your NOIM, you may be able to post the documents. Please call us on: 1300 655 236 for more information.

Provide your Birth Certificates

Please ensure you both bring your full (certified) Birth Certificates along with you.

If you do not have your Birth Certificate and you were born in NSW, you can apply for one from the Registry.

If you were born overseas, a birth certificate or a valid overseas passport is required. Australian passport cannot be accepted.

If previously married

If you have been previously married, you must provide evidence of the termination of the marriage in the form of a Death Certificate (if you have been widowed) or an original of your final divorce papers.

Your documents

All documents provided to the Registry must be originals and must be in English. If the documents are not in English then a qualified interpreter must translate them.

At the time of your interview, if all the necessary documentation has been provided, a Customer Service Representative will arrange a date and time for your wedding ceremony.
