| Birth registered in NSW
People whose birth is registered in NSW who have undergone a sex affirmation procedure may apply to have their new sex recorded
on their Birth Certificate.
The new Birth Certificate will not disclose
that a sex change has taken place.
If you have changed your name since your birth was first
registered, an endorsement will appear on the new certificate stating
that your birth was 'Previously registered in another
name'.
Your birth record will be re-registered in the current year showing the new sex.
Access to your original birth record is restricted by legislation.
Birth not registered in Australia
People whose birth is not registered in Australia and who are an Australian Citizen or permanent resident of Australia and who live and have lived for at least one (1) year in NSW, who have undergone a sex affirmation procedure may apply to register a change of sex.
Once a change of sex is registered a Recognised Details Certificate can be issued. The recognised details certificate will record your new sex and current name.
